CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping JV: takes delivery on January 14th of first cruise ship MV Costa Atlantica, Costa Mediterranea at end of 2020

CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping has received the delivery of the cruise ship Costa Atlantica from Carnival Cruise subsidiary Costa Cruise.

Established in 2018, CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping is a joint venture (JV) between Carnival and China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).

As part of the partnership, the JV will receive two Costa cruise ships, Costa Atlantica and Costa Mediterranea, which will be transferred at a later date.

The 85,861 GT Costa Atlantica can accommodate 2,210 passengers.
Sister ship Costa Mediterranea can carry 2,114 passengers and will join at the end of2020.

The JV will also receive two new vessels with an option to order four additional cruise ships that will be constructed in China.

The two new cruise ships - based on Carinival VISTA-Class, 133.500 GT - will be built by Shanghai-based Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co (SWS). The first ship will be delivered in 2023.

In addition, the first 2 + 4 135,000-ton large-scale domestic cruise ship built for CSSC Carnival started construction at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. last October and will be completed successively from 2023. 

It is estimated that by 2028, CSSC Carnival will own 8 large cruise ships and become China's largest cruise company.
